Mums Matter!

Service Spotlight

As Mother’s Day is almost here, we thought we’d use this as an opportunity to tell you about ‘Mum’s Matter’

We're going to be sharing a service spotlight every now and again to give you a bit more in-depth information about what we do &

how we may be able to help you, your friends, or your family.

We really hope you find these helpful!

If you have a question about the service that we haven’t answered, just message us and we’ll get back to you.

We caught up with Sarah our Mums Matter Coordinator (pictured – hi Sarah!) to find out the answers to a few questions we’ve been asked recently about Mums Matter.

Sarah our Mums Matter Coordinator :)

Sarah, do I have to attend every session?

No, there’s no pressure to attend every session but obviously the more you do, the more you’re likely to get out of it.

How long is a session?

Each session lasts 2 hours – always in the morning (10-12).

What topics do you cover?

• Supporting yourself

• The reality of being a mum

• Relaxation and meditation

• Challenging unhelpful thinking

• Building self-esteem and confidence

• Accessing support and linking in with other mums

What does a session look like?

They are on Zoom which has worked really well, we email you a link to each session and we meet there.

We start with a check-in. For example, if last week was an animal, what would it be? We’ve had sloths (slow and sleepy), donkeys (think Eeyore) and even dragonflies (beautiful but here, there and everywhere). That’s what’s nice about these sessions, we can celebrate the good times but recognise that some weeks are hard, and we all experience those at times.

We do a breathing exercise together, for some people this is their favourite part, being given permission to relax.

Then we move on to the topic with slides, discussions and activities in small groups.

We have a chat and close with a meditation. Throughout the weeks in the WhatsApp group, we share these meditation and mindfulness exercises so that we can do them at home. There’s no pressure to do ‘homework’ but the techniques we suggest are so nice, that it’s a shame not to.

We keep in touch throughout the course by WhatsApp. It’s a safe space to chat, share issues or successes and arrange meet-ups if anyone fancies a cuppa IRL.
